It Was an Accident

Today, one of our kittens, Baby, died. Baby was Anna' favorite kitten. Anna had named her and always loved to hold her. It was sort of understood that she was Anna's kitten, even if the kittens would be going to another home soon.
The backyard ramp was dropped on Baby's head, and she was dying. We wanted her to be put to sleep before the pain set in after the initial shock of the brain injury. She couldn't be shot within the city limits, so Daddy put her to sleep with helium. By the time it was ready, Baby was already past the shock, and was in pain. She was whimpering pitifully.  Daddy put her in a bag with helium. We will bury her later.
Jacob was very upset, because he was the one who had dropped the ramp on Baby, and she was Anna's favorite kitten. He felt so guilty. Anna told Jacob, it was just a kitten. Anna was upset, but she tried to help Jacob feel better.  Jacob replied with, "No she wasn't. She was your special kitten, and I killed her."
